PET for Schools
The test measures the communicative competence of pupils aged 11 to 14 years in each of the four language skills at two-thirds of the knowledge required for FCE.
A student at this level should be able to cope with the linguistic range of everyday situations that require the use of English in contact with native speakers and foreigners.
To achieve this level needs around 380 hours of study.
The difference between the standard PET test and the PET for Schools exam is in the content and course focus. It is targeted and tailored to the interests and experiences of pupils in primary schools.
The content of the test is as follows:
- Reading and Writing (1 hour 30 minutes)
- Listening (40 minutes)
- Speaking (10 minutes per pair of candidates)
Marking
Candidates will receive standardized assessment. The test as a whole has a possible total of 100 points.
For each stage a fixed number of points is required:
- Pass with Merit = 85-100
- Pass = 70-84
- Council of Europe Level A2 = 45-69
- Fail = 0-44
The minimum for a passing grade is 70 points. Candidates who achieve 45-69 points will however receive a certificate level showing their level as A1.
Exam registration is taken care of through ILC International House Brno, in whose classrooms the tests are also taken.
