Academic management

The teaching and teacher management of ILC International House Brno is taken care of, first and foremost, by the Director of Studies (DOS), aided by a team including the YL Coordinator, Teacher Trainers and Senior Teachers.

The aim of this academic group is to create syllabi and course outlines for each level of study, co-ordinate the teaching team, and provide methodological guidance in the form of observations and regular seminars and workshops for teachers.

At the beginning of the school year, there is an introductory week for new teachers. For returning returning teachers, this can be used as preparation and development time. During the course of the year, teachers have weekly organisational meetings and methodological seminars. The DOS and Senior Teachers are assigned regular contact hours with other members of the teaching team, helping them with lesson planning, resource management and professional development. This brings all members of the teaching staff together to exchange ideas, inspiration and experience.

Dave Cleary, Director of Studies
 

Dave Cleary, Director of Studies (DOS) Dave has been living and working as an English teacher in Brno since the summer of 2000 after passing his TEFL Certificate course in England. Then, in 2006, he took and passed the Cambridge DELTA at Akcent IH Prague. He worked as a teacher, teacher trainer, conference organiser, academic manager and materials writer before agreeing to become Director of Studies at ILC IH Brno from August 2012. He says it is a great job because everybody connected with the school - the students, the teachers and the office staff – is so friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated to giving the best of themselves. Dave’s favourite way to relax is by playing golf, but he never seems to have enough time as it takes at least four hours to play one round! Instead he runs, reads and cooks badly. Anette Igel, Deputy Director & YL coordinator Anette is the Deputy Director as well as being head of our Young Learners department. Originally from Germany, she has lived in so many places she claims not to have a home town – the UK, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia to name just a few! Her background includes stints working as a drama teacher, social worker, photographer, cook and jewellery designer before doing her Trinity TESOL at Oxford House College in Prague. She is also a qualified Cambridge examiner, teacher trainer and YL examiner..
