2020 was meant to be a fantastic year full of hope and excitement; of great lessons and great teaching; of meeting old and new friends. Oh well.
Given the current situation we have decided to cancel the conference in October. And we have also postponed our 20th anniversary celebrations and will celebrate being 21, or 22, or whenever we feel it is safe and appropriate to do so. When we do set new dates you will be the first to know!
Many of you have signed up and paid for an event at ILC IH Brno. You can either bank that money for a future event with us, or contact the office - email@example.com - to discuss the options.
In the meantime, please take care of yourselves, your students and each other.
Thank you for your understanding.
The year 2000 saw several announcements that began to change and shape the world: Apple announced a new way of storing music called iTunes, whilst in the UK the cast of the Harry Potter films were introduced. And in Brno ILC joined the International House network and became ILC International House Brno.
Ever since 2000 the school has been committed to helping students and teachers improve. Improve their English skills; improve their teaching skills. A huge part of this has been the Saturday conferences where 100 or so like-minded teachers come and learn and share.
To celebrate 20 years as an International House school we have invited back some of the best-loved presenters over the years, and to make sure you get a chance to see your personal favourites they will all be presenting their session twice!
Who are these wonderful trainers? Here are the first six:
Anette Igel says "we'll be looking at ways how to reach out to all learners and making our classroom a welcoming place."
Sarka Cox will present some of her old-time favourites - "I've used these language practice tasks numerous times and always go back to them."
Kristyna Urbankova "is going to provide a few practical tips on how to exploit coursebook materials, so that it's enjoyable and fun for all the people involved :-). "
Charles Du Parc is challenging some conventional wisdom on L1 in the classroom "In this session there will be several activities that would have had teacher trainers from the past tut-tutting or worse."
Lily-Anne Young is helping you as she "aims to take away the fear of teaching advanced levels."
and Daniela Clarke wants you to "Come and get some new ideas for using games, music and video in the classroom."
But what do they think of ILC IH Brno and the city?
Anette Igel "This school, the people and the town will always have a very special place in my heart! I'm always happy 'coming home' even if it's only for a short time."
Kristyna Urbankova "when I return at any occasion, it feels like being at home. I especially love the unique, friendly atmosphere...This positive attitude is somehow infectious, come and see!"
Charles Du Parc "Brno requires time - it reveals its secrets slowly. Then you can discover the architectural gem that is right above your head or that cosy pub selling amazing beer."
Lily-Anne Young "I am still here because Brno is a great place to live and work. Looking forward to seeing many people at the conference."
Sarka Cox "ILC IH Brno conferences are always good fun and a source of practical ideas :-)"
Daniela Clarke "Teachers are amazing people, and with all the enthusiasm and energy flying around at the IH Brno conferences, it’s fun, it’s rewarding, and I feel that my work has a purpose."
