IH CYLT

International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners (IH CYLT)


Moderated by Cambridge English Language Assessment.

IH CYLT is a comprehensive, internationally accredited course accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports within the framework of further education of teaching staff (DVPP).
It focuses on teaching methodology for children from 3 to 16 years of age. The course will provide teachers with modern methodical teaching methods in English.
All seminars contain both theory and practical support.
The aim of the course is to improve the quality of English teaching, especially in elementary schools.
 
The course is in 2 parts: seminars led by experienced tutors and teaching practice (the so-called feedback loop). Teacher practice involves having lessons observed by our teacher trainers who evaluate and give feedback on lessons.

 

Course content

Seminars

20 sessions of approximately one hour and 30 minutes each, amounting to 30 hours of input time. These sessions are run over a period of 10 consecutive days (full-time, intensive format) or over a period of 12 weeks (part-time, extensive format). Participants are required to attend a minimum of 80% of the input sessions.

Each participant will be observed teaching Young Learner classes by an approved tutor for a minimum of 4 lessons at 2 different levels (for a minimum of 3 hours). There will be a minimum of 45 minutes tuition time (pre-lesson guidance and post-lesson feedback) given for each hour of teaching.


The course will take place in classrooms in ILC International House Brno, Sukova 2.

 

Observation of experienced teachers & Peer Observations

Each participant will observe experienced teachers of Young Learners teaching for a minimum of 4 hours. For each of the hours of observation, participants must complete an assigned observation task.

Participants are also required to do a minimum of 4 hours of observation; trainees will have the opportunity to observe each other, and experienced YL teachers.

 

Summary of contact hours within the course:

Input time in the form of sessions – 30 hours

Input time in the form of tutorials, etc. per trainee – 5 hours

Teaching practice per trainee – 3 hours

Observation of experienced teachers – 4 hours

Observation of fellow trainees on the course – 4 hours

 

Homework Tasks

Each participant will be assigned 13 homework tasks.

 

Tutorials

Each participant will be given a minimum of two tutorials of approximately 30 minutes each – these will involve the discussion of observation tasks and trainees‘ general progression up to that point of the course.

 

Written work

Each participant will need to complete two written assignments. These will be set and submitted during the course. A third optional assignment will be set during the course but can be submitted up to two years from completion of the course. In addition, there will be homework tasks set after some input sessions.

 

Final certificate

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an internationally recognised certificate (IH CYLT) for teaching English to children and teenagers.

The administrative fee for issuing a certificate (£85) is not included in the course price.

Accreditation of the Ministry of Education

Methodological course IH CYLT is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. 

Registration

Course participants must meet the following basic criteria:

be at least 18 years of age

have a good knowledge of English

have a at least a basic pedagogical education and / or experience teaching English

The number of places in the course is limited.
The school reserves the right to open the course or to refuse other candidates if we are oversubscribed.

19 900 CZK (may also be paid in installments)

If you register 8 weeks before the beginning of the course you will receive a 10 % discount. Teachers from Associate Schools programme will also receive 10 % discount if they register and pay at least one week before the course starts.

 

Cancellation conditions

0% of the course price - more than 60 days prior to the start of the course

50% of the course price - if canceled between 60 and 30 days before the course starts

75% of the course price - if canceled between 30 and 15 days before the course starts

100% of the course price - less than 15 days prior to the course start
